More than 60% of Russians have used AI technologies in the last year
Over the past year, 63% of Russians have used artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, while three years ago only a third of the country’s residents could explain what it is, according to the results of a survey of Russian citizens on the topic of artificial intelligence conducted by the All-Russian Center for Public Opinion Research (VTsIOM).
VTsIOM conducted a survey on November 26, 1,600 adult Russians participated in it. According to the results of the survey, for the most part, the country’s residents used voice assistants and text requests in the GPT chat room (31% each). It was also noted that women turn to voice assistants more often than men (35% vs. 28%). More than half of the respondents – 54% – perceive AI as an assistant, and 76% are sure that it is acceptable to use AI in learning (69% of them mention compliance with the rules, and 7% believe it is possible to use AI without any restrictions).
Artificial intelligence is most actively used among young people. According to VTsIOM data, among “zoomers” and “younger millennials” the figure reaches 86-87%, in the “stagnation” generation four out of 10 people (42%) use AI, in the “thaw” generation – every fourth or fifth person (23%). The study also indicates that the use of AI is also associated with the level of education (74% in the group with incomplete higher education and higher education vs. 42% in the group with incomplete secondary education), urbanization (69-77% in both capitals and cities with millions of inhabitants vs. 49% in rural areas) and preferred mode of media consumption (80% among Internet users vs. 13% among active TV viewers).
On December 2, “Kommersant” with reference to the consortium ANO “Computing Technology” wrote that developers of artificial intelligence in Russia by 40% increased investment in equipment in 2024. According to the consortium, the output of AI technologies since this year has increased by 10.5%, investment in equipment takes 14.2%.
